What I think is almost a sure-fire best-seller (at least, as far as best-sellers within this series go) is the 12″ Marvel Legends Wolverine that was announced during San Diego Comic-Con.
Coupled with the facts that the iconic red Deadpool was cleared out at half price and that the brown on the arms (not usually included on toys) makes this particular sixth scale figure pretty ugly, and I’m legit concerned that this Deadpool variant is going to bomb hard at retail. Wade Wilson only wore this costume in a handful of issues, and it’s not one that we see released very often at all (although Kotobukiya did just release an ARTFX+ repaint in this color scheme). This is the “Inverse Deadpool” black and red costume that Funko first released a toy of half a decade ago ( which happens to be one of the first Funko reviews I ever wrote!). What makes less sense to me, however, was the announcement that a Marvel Legends Weapon X Deadpool 12″ figure is also going to be released–as a mass market retail item. The grey Deadpool costume is easily Wade’s second most recognizable and marketable look from the comics, so it makes sense that Toys R Us would want to take on this iteration of Deadpool as an exclusive release. The Target Exclusive Symbiote Spider-Man 12″ figure began hitting stores last month, and the second exclusive release in the line has now been announced: a Toys R Us Exclusive Marvel Legends 12″ X-Force Deadpool figure! The 12″ Marvel Legends figures series is a bit of an odd duck in that every figure released to date has been quickly discounted by huge amounts by the chains carrying the line, and yet the series itself keeps on chugging along.įrom an outside perspective the line doesn’t seem to be performing very well, but Hasbro (and stores) must be at least reasonably happy with the 12″ series if new figures keep getting show and stores keep signing up for exclusives.
